As a mom of three boys who suffered with infertility for over 7 years, when I finally was able to conceive children, I just could not bear to be apart from them. Funny how that works, I was a Credit Manager for GE Capital and was very happy and focused in my career. I had every intention of going back to work, in fact I did for a few months but I was just miserable. My oldest son was not very healthy and was later diagnosed as being autistic so it ended up being a good option for me to work from home. Many women choose to work outside of the home and that is certainly an option, but for me, working inside the home was my goal.
You have a few options if you want to work from home. First you can check with your current employer and see if they will allow you to telecommute. Many companies allow employees to work a portion of the time from home. Or you can find a home based position like I did when I worked for uBid Online Auction in Chicago from home. It was a great option for me at the time. Pay in this type of position tends to be on the lower end but when factoring in the cost savings of daycare, it is certainly something to consider.
How do you find a work from home job? Unfortunately you have to screen the legitimate and illegitimate scam offers. Some are not real jobs and others are full-time with benefits just like if you worked in the office. When you are searching for employment online, you can check out options like Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com. Search for terms like “work from home” and “telecommute” in your search. You will be surprised about the ocassional opportunities that show up. Another option is to work for yourself as a daycare provider. This requires long hours and depending on your state, you may be required to be licensed. It can be a difficult road to go, but it can certainly help meet your family income needs.
Another option I wish I knew about when I was younger, is working for yourself. Currently I am a home based XO Healthy Chocolate promoter. It was affordable to get started and I have complete control over if I choose to work full-time or part-time. One of the greatest options is my schedule is completely flexible. I have control over when I schedule appointments and can make sure I am available to get the kids on and off the school bus and can pick up the kids from activities.
Even better, working from home has given me the opportunity to earn much more per hour than I could possibly earn in any paid home based position. In my business, I get paid to share with others and I get paid to help them develop their teams as well. It is rewarding to help others improve their health and wealth.
