Skip the Flu?

Is it possible to skip the flu and keep your immune system strong?

Cold and flu season is on it’s way along with cooler fall weather. Immune system boosters are important if you want to stay healthy. Here is a list of immune system boosting foods to get through the fall and winter weather:

  1. Probiotic foods
  2. Dark Chocolate
  3. Apples- (Maybe An apple a day really does keep the doctor away!)

Foods that strengthen your immune system

I read an article in ActiveBeat called “Probiotic Foods that Help Strengthen Your Immune System” that had some great things to say about chocolate.

“As if we needed another reason to eat more chocolate! I’m sure the answer to that is no, but just in case, here’s a big one! Dark chocolate is rich in probiotic which means it’s good for the digestive system. Not only that, but it also contains antioxidants that help control the oxidation of cells and free radicals, says StyleCraze.

If you’re not convinced, check out this 2013 study published in the Frontiers in Pharmacology journal which found that cocoa has anti-inflammatory properties and “a cocoa diet could be beneficial in certain immune processes.” A cocoa diet? Sign me up!”

My take on healthy options

I personally have benefitted from eating healthy chocolate regularly. Before I added this chocolate to my diet, I used to get sick ALL the time. That changed when I added this beyond healthy chocolates with probiotics. The 2013 study explains about polyphenols, a potent antioxidant found in chocolate like Beyond Healthy Chocolate. (Used to be called Xocai). Beyond chocolate calls them “Xobiotic” chocolate. Each square is just 35 calories, 1 gram of sugar and 1 net carb. One piece is equal in antioxidants to over 1 pound of raw spinach. This delicious chocolate is sweetened with acai and blueberry. I have my entire family eating this chocolate! Make sure to stock up now before the freezing weather and snow arrive.

Not a fan of chocolate? Check out the XeTRM energy drink that is mixed with water. This berry flavored beverage has the antioxidants and cocoa flavonoids found in healthy chocolate along with probiotic. This also helps with weight loss, mood and energy.

Of course a good old apple would be yummy, maybe dipped in chocolate
